PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a thermoplastic polyester suitable for high quality films excellent in film moldability/sustained heat stability, having no defects and excellent in color hue. SOLUTION: By reacting [A] 1, 4-butane diol, [B] a polyalkylene ether glycol having 500-6000 molecular weight, [C] a chain branching agent, [D] a lower alkyl ester of a difunctional carboxylic acid comprising terephthalic acid as a main component and/or [E] a difunctional carboxylic acid comprising dimethyl phthalate as a main component in the presence of a titanium compound, the thermoplastic polyester containing 5-35 wt.% rate of a structural unit derived from [B], 0.05-10 rate expressed by ä(molar quantity of [C])/(molar quantity of [D] and [E])}x100, 10-120 ppm rate of titanium atom and 0.01-0.4 wt.% hindered phenol-based heat stabilizer is produced.
