PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve noise resistance when generating image data having a wide dynamic range. SOLUTION: An image signal Sr is digitized to image data DrH by a high-gain amplifier 12a having a prescribed gain and an A/D converter 22a. Similarly, the image signal Sr is digitized to image data DrL by a low-gain amplifier 21a having a small gain as compared with the amplifier 12a, and an A/D converter 23a. An image synthesizer 24a generates synthesizing image data Dr by synthesizing the image data DrL, DrH. On a camera substrate 10a, an image pickup device 11a and the high-gain amplifier 12a are mounted.
