PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an inkjet recording device which can form an image of a high picture quality and a high printing precision, and to provide its controlling method. SOLUTION: This inkjet recording device includes a distal end distance detecting sensor, a rear end distance detecting sensor, a tilting angle detecting means, and a discharging timing correcting means. In this case, the distal end distance detecting sensor is provided on the distal end of a printing head, and detects a distal end distance which is a distance to a recording medium. The rear end distance detecting sensor is provided on the rear end of the printing head, and detects a rear end distance which is a distance to the recording medium. The tilting angle detecting means detects a tilting angle to the carrying direction of the nozzle surface of the recording head based on the detected distal end distance and the detected rear end distance. The discharging timing correcting means corrects a timing by which an ink is discharged from a nozzle based on the detected tilting angle and the moving speed of a carriage in a discharging section.
