PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a magnetic sensor element and an electronic azimuth instrument, capable of detecting geomagnetism, even if miniaturized and of loading on handheld terminal due to low in height. SOLUTION: In the flux gate typed magnetic sensor element which comprises a magneto-detecting section 8a formed by winding a coil 3 around a magnetic core material 8 and magnetism collecting sections 8b deriving magnetic flux to the magneto-detecting section 8a, the flat shape of the magnetic core material 8 is of an H-shaped connecting the facing central parts of the two parallel-arrayed magnetism collecting sections 8b by both ends of the magneto-detecting section 8a and the coil 3 of magnetism collecting sections 8b is of lamella coil, formed by connecting a plurality of upper-coil thin film 12 and a plurality of lower-coil thin film 4, which are formed on the top surface side and the bottom surface side of the magnetic core material via an insulated layer, respectively, so as to sequentially continue at the adjoining edges.
