The present invention relates to a method of removing hydroxyhydroquinone from an aqueous solution containing hydroxyhydroquinone and caffeoylquinic acids by bringing the aqueous solution into contact with an acid clay having a SiO<SUB>2</SUB>/Al<SUB>2</SUB>O<SUB>3 </SUB>ratio of from 3 to 5. The present invention enables selective removal of hydroxyhydroquinone from an aqueous solution containing hydroxyhydroquinone and caffeoylquinic acids.
