<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a backlight device designed to remove luminance variations of a liquid crystal panel and to save a space by holding a light source component at a proper position with respect to a light guide plate, and a liquid crystal device using it. <P>SOLUTION: In this backlight device structured so that light from a LED 36 disposed on a flexible wiring board 35 enters a light entering surface 311 provided on the side of a light guide plate 31, a bent part bent in the thickness direction of the light guide plate 31 is formed in a part of the flexible wiring board 35 so that elastic force is given to the light entering surface 311 side.
