<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To make an observer hardly feel that display is unnatural when the luminance level of a picture is partially varied. <P>SOLUTION: Pixels PX are selected in sequence by rows and a video signal is written to each pixel PX that a selected row includes; and a driving current having a level corresponding to the video signal already written to the pixel PX that an unselected row includes is supplied to a light emitting element LED that the pixel PX includes. A first average luminance level is calculated from the video signal of one vertical period and updated more than once in every vertical period, and a second average luminance level is calculated from a video signal to be supplied to the pixel PX that the row to be selected includes. An illumination time for which the driving current is supplied to the light emitting element LED within a nonselection period from the end of selection of a row to next selection is controlled, based upon the second average luminance level and the first average luminance level obtained by using the video signal written to the pixel PX that the row to be selected includes one vertical period before. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2008,JPO&INPIT |
