PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a digital still camera capable of minimizing starting time after the power is turned on until photography is made possible. SOLUTION: At the time of activation of a system, minimum programs for activation required for starting an imaging system 2 are read in a buffer memory 6 and executed to make photography possible. When a release button 12 is operated, image data imaged by the imaging system 2 are stored in the buffer memory 6 as raw data, and afterward the rest of the programs for activation including programs for acquisition of information in a memory card 8 are read in the buffer memory 6 and executed. Prior to processing of acquisition of information in the memory card 8, by executing starting processing of the imaging system 2 alone and making photography possible immediately by activating the system at a high speed. Thereby the starting time after the power is turned on until photography is made possible can be minimized, and possibilities of missing a good opportunity to take a photograph are greatly reduced.
