PROCESS FOR APPLYING COATING, BOND COAT COMPOSITION, AND COATED ARTICLE

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a thermal barrier coating improved in durability by improving a fine structure of a bond coat surface and a process for applying the same. SOLUTION: The process for applying the coating upon an article includes the steps of preparing an article (step 10); applying upon at least one surface of the article a bond coat layer composed of a bond coat material (step 12); oxidizing at least one metal on the bond coat layer (step 14) to form a thermally grown oxide layer upon the bond coat layer (step 16); and applying a thermal barrier coating layer upon the bond coating layer (step 18). As a result, the basic characteristics, such as a coefficient of thermal expansion, are improved and the coating having the excellent durability can be obtained. COPYRIGHT: (C)2008,JPO&INPIT
