<p>A system for protecting people in a tunnel (1) affected by a fire, comprising an apparatus (10) for dispensing nonflammable liquid, which is constituted by a source (11) of nonflammable liquid, by means (12) for dispensing the liquid which are arranged at a plurality of preselected locations along the longitudinal extension of the tunnel (1), and by means (13) for conveying the liquid between the source (11) and the dispensing means (12); a fire sensing apparatus (14), which is adapted to detect the moment when the fire begins and the location of a fire in the tunnel; and at least two curtains (15) of nonflammable liquid generated by the liquid dispensing means (12) following the detection of a fire by the sensing apparatus, in at least two of the preselected locations, the fire sensing apparatus comprising sensing means (20) which are adapted to detect the extent of the region affected by the fire along the longitudinal extension of the tunnel (1), the at least two curtains (15) of liquid generated by the liquid dispensing means (12) being arranged so as to delimit on either side the region affected by the fire, each curtain (15) covering completely the respective transverse cross-section of the tunnel (1).</p> |
