PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image reading apparatus capable of eliminating density variations of read image data without deteriorating the throughput in consecutively reading originals by means of an ADF or the like and to provide an image forming apparatus provided with the image reading apparatus. SOLUTION: The image reading apparatus including an original consecutive carrying means for consecutively conveying the originals and an original read means for reading an image of the originals for each line according to a line synchronizing signal, wherein shading correction data are acquired by reading a reference white board by the original read means and read data read by the original read means are corrected on the basis of the shading correction data, includes a feedback function for varying a gain in response to a temperature of a face of a lamp tube when the image of the originals carried by the original consecutive carrying means is consecutively read.
