PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain image data reproducing an image of an original highly precisely independently of types of the original while suppressing the increase of manufacturing cost. SOLUTION: The image reading apparatus includes: a drive mechanism 223 for moving a support member along a subscanning direction by delivering a driving force produced by a motor 222 to the support member for movably supporting a reflection original use light source for emitting light to the original from a same side as an imaging element along the subscanning direction; and a transmission original use light source section 318 provided opposite to the support member with a read position in-between, wherein the drive mechanism 223 and the transmission original use light source section 318 are coupled by a coupling mechanism 309 so that a single drive mechanism 223 moves the reflection original use light source suitable for reading the reflection original and the transmission original use light source section 318 suitable for reading the transmission original.
