PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a lightning arrester which has a small risk of a ground-fault accident by using an existent cup member and eliminating the gap with a lightning arrester main body, and thus limiting entry of foreign matter into the cup member while avoiding a large increase in cost. SOLUTION: Disclosed is a cover member 10 fitted to the lightning arrester connected to a power distribution line and having a function of discharging an entering thunderbolt to a ground side, and the lightning arrester is equipped with the cup member 110 formed covering connection metal fittings 102 on the side of the lightning arrester main body 101 where a line-side electric wire D from the power distribution line is connected. The cover member is installed on the lightning arrester while formed in a circumferential shape to cover a circumference of a gap formed where a top surface 101b of a discoid shape 101a of the lightning arrester main body part 101 and an opening end part 110a of the cup member 110 are opposed to each other.
