A flexible barge comprises an envelope 2 (Fig. 1) attached to a retaining ring 4 (Fig. 2) and an end piece 1 provided with an annular shoulder against which the ring bears when the envelope is taut. In Figs. 2 and 15 the shoulder is formed by a recessed emplacement 13 in the end piece 1 and in Fig. 8 by a plate 16 attached to a plate 14 rigidly secured to the end piece. The end piece may have a recess 8 for additional means of securing the envelope comprising a clamping ring 7. A resilient fairing 11 attached to the end piece underlies the envelope. The end piece may be of metal or wood. Fig. 13 shows a wooden end piece 1 at the bow of the barge and having attached thereto a plate 21 with lifting lugs 19 and attachments 23 for hydrofoils, a towing attachment, and a fairing 24.
