PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a digital camera which automatically houses a lens barrel (imaging optical system) without decreasing use efficiency of a battery. SOLUTION: The digital camera determines whether or not a user is getting access to a PC card used as a memory when a fixed time duration has passed after the user switched to a mode other than an imaging mode (Step S11). If it is determined to be negative because the user does not get access to the PC card, the camera houses an imaging optical system (lens barrel).
