PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image reader for improving the reading efficiency in a file. SOLUTION: A scanner device has a light source for transmission arranged and an image pickup device arranged movably and oppositely along a subscan direction, and reads a film by allowing the image pickup device to receive light emitted from the light source section for transmission. In the scanner device, the quantity of received light is detected in the imaging device of the light emitted from the light source for transmission (step S802) when there is an instruction for reading the film (step 801: "Yes"), phase matching processing is performed based on the detected result (step S805), and the relative position is corrected in the light source and the imaging device in the subscan direction.
