PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an improved calcium pyrophosphate phosphor activated with cerium and a lamp containing the phosphor. SOLUTION: The invention provides a calcium pyrophosphate phosphor coactivated with Ce and Pr and radiating UV rays. The Pr activation agent of the phosphor increases the sensitivity of the phosphor to the excitation with 185 nm radiation. The improved sensitivity to 185 nm radiation enables more efficient utilization of about 10% UV radiation radiated at 185 nm wavelength by a low-pressure mercury discharge.
