PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To detect the amount of waste fluid by a simple apparatus in a waste fluid suction apparatus. SOLUTION: The pressure of an enclosed suction waste fluid tank, to which a waste fluid pipe from an instrument is connected and which stores waste fluid, is opened to atmospheric pressure temporarily. The waste fluid tank is then enclosed, and the time taken to reach a predetermined degree of vacuum P<SB>1</SB>from atmospheric pressure when the waste fluid tank is evacuated by a vacuum pump is measured, thereby determining the amount of the waste fluid existing in the waste fluid tank.
