A reader in an RFID(Radio Frequency Identification) system and a method for controlling the same are provided to improve reliability for products, simplify a manufacturing process, and reduce production cost by detecting an occupied frequency channel using PN(Pseudo Noise) information and carrying out reader-to-tag communication through one of the other frequency channels except for the detected frequency channel. A reader in an RFID system comprises a signal receiving part(10), a communication channel detecting part, and a signal transmitting part. The signal receiving part(10) receives an RF signal supplied from an adjacent reader, amplifies the RF signal after removing a noise component, and converts the amplifies RF signal into digital data. The communication channel detecting part detects a frequency channel, which is in the middle of communication between the adjacent reader and a tag, through the output data of the signal receiving part(10). The signal transmitting part hops to a communicable frequency channel, based on the detected frequency channel, and transmits the modulated RF signal to a tag.
