Preparing a solid material (A) containing nanofibers (I) and/or tangled nanotubes (II), comprises proliferating the immobilized nanotubes (IIa) and/or (I) within a reactor. Independent claims are included for: (1) a material (A) containing nanotubes (IIa) and/or tangled (I); and (2) a process of decontaminating an aqueous medium containing hydrophobic organic pollutant agents comprising contacting the aqueous medium with (A) to retain the pollutant agents and extracting (A) form the medium.
