The transmitter (1) has a transmitting unit for sending speech signals, and a receiving unit for receiving control signals. A switching unit is used for turning-on and/or turning off the transmitting unit depending on the control signals, where the transmitter is automatically configured with a configuration device depending on the control signals. A control device detects presence or movement of the transmitter in a cultural room. The transmitting unit transmits the control signals to the transmitter depending on the detection result of the control device. Independent claims are also included for the following: (1) a method for transmitting speech signals in a cultural room or a class room (2) a method for controlling a radio transmitter with speech signals in the class room.
