The present invention refers to essential oils extracted by a hydro-distillation process from Tagetes filifolia Lag, which are useful as control agents by a repellency and biocidal effect on insects that affect a diversity of crops and represent an important alternative, from the ecological and economical view, to the use of chemical products for controlling pests in agriculture, since no complicated or delicate devices or procedures are required for the production, treatment and application thereof, with the prospect of developing agricultural production systems that, besides sustainable, are organic, as well as useful for providing economical access to the low-income agricultural sector.
