Method displaying the position of a medical instrument, especially for preparation of a femur for a femur implant engaging with a ball joint in the acetabulum of the pelvis, or in a joint socket, inserted in the pelvis or similar, whereby, in a transverse plane of the femur (16) at the level of the mid-point of the ball joint, the above and an intersection line (21) of said transverse plane and an instrument plane (17) are represented, which pass through the midpoint of the ball joint.
