A metallic material having on the surface thereof a surface treatment coating film which, in the uncoated state or after having been coated, is equal or superior in corrosion resistance to coating films formed by the zinc phosphate treatment or chromate treatment as a conventional technique. The coating film generates no sludge, contains no ingredients harmful to the environment, and is formed from ingredients capable of being deposited by a simple method. It is a surface-treated metallic material comprising a metallic material which has on the surface thereof a surface treatment coating film layer comprising the following ingredients (A) and (B): (A) an oxide and/or hydroxide of at least one metallic element selected from the group consisting of Ti, Zr, and Hf and (B) an Al element. In the surface treatment coating film layer, the mass ratio of the deposition amount, B, of the Al element of the ingredient (B) to the total deposition amount, A, of the metallic elements of the ingredient (A), K1=B/A, is 0.001<=K1<=2. |
