A method for preparing a light emitting material is provided to allow the surface of light emitting particles to be coated uniformly with a chemically stable substance, such as glass, thereby improving the lifespan of the light emitting material and the productivity and lifespan of a display device. A method for preparing a light emitting material comprises: a step(S1) of adding a solid solution of a light emitting material containing light emitting core particles having a diameter of 1-10 micrometers and formed of silver and chlorine, silver with aluminum, silver with aluminum and copper, or copper with aluminum, in zinc sulfide to an aqueous solution containing water glass formed of K2O.SiO2 under agitation; a step(S2) of adding the resultant aqueous solution to an aqueous barium acetate solution under agitation; a step(S3) of extracting the particles of the light emitting material from the aqueous solution by centrifugal separation; and a step(S4) of drying the particles to obtain light emitting particles whose surface is coated uniformly with glass so as to prevent degradation thereof caused by irradiation of electron beams.
