An apparatus and a method for preventing a slim CRT neck of a television from being damaged are provided to compare the size of a period corresponding to VCC voltage in one period of an image signal output from a horizontal deflection controller with the size of a preset reference period. An apparatus for preventing a slim CRT neck of a television from being damaged includes a slim CRT(60), a slim CRT driving part(40), a horizontal deflection controller(52), and an error detector(53). The slim CRT(60) receives high voltage in order to convert an electric signal into an electronic beam and output an image signal onto a fluorescence surface. The slim CRT driving part(40) outputs an image signal and a driving signal such that the slim CRT(60) is driven. The horizontal deflection controller(52) controls horizontal deflection of image signals of the slim CRT driving part(40). The error detector(53) compares the size of one period of an image signal output from the horizontal deflection controller with the size of an image signal.
