A protector for a street lamp post and an installing method thereof are provided to prevent deformation by distributing and absorbing expansion or contraction due to ambient temperature change, and to restrict separation and breakage by increasing assembling force. A protector includes a protection member(10), an installation member(40), a deformation preventive unit, and a reinforcing member. The protection member has plural projections, grooves, assembling grooves and assembling projections, and insulates a street lamp post. The protection member is mounted to the street lamp post by the installation member, and the installation member is fastened to the protection member by a screw. The deformation preventive unit is engraved in the protection member to prevent thermal deformation of the protection member. The reinforcing member is mounted to the protection member to reinforce and assemble the protection members firmly. Plural flexible grooves are arranged at regular intervals and formed in the protection member to distribute and damp contraction or expansion of the protection member.
