The device has an optical fiber (2) connected to a light signal transmission/reception device (3) by one of its ends. A set of couplers (5) is distributed along the fiber. Sensors (1) are connected to the couplers by an optical fiber section (4). Each sensor is connected to the light signal transmission/reception device by the fiber. The sensors receive an optical signal of sufficient intensity and detect the change of reflection index of medium that is in contact with the sensors. An amplitude of signal returning from the sensor to the reception device is sufficient to permit the detection. An independent claim is also included for an optical instrumentation method, comprising connecting an optic fiber to an instrumentation control.
