The engine has a pressure wave supercharger (2) crossed by re-circulated exhaust gas. A displacement compressor (3) is connected to an air source and supplies the air to the supercharger, where the pressure of the air is less than the re-circulated exhaust gas. Two electrical motors (4, 5) respectively drives the supercharger and the displacement compressor. The supercharger has an input (23) and an output (24) connected to an exhaust manifold (11) and an intake manifold (10) by double branch pipes (20, 40), respectively. An independent claim is also included for a method for controlling an engine of a vehicle.
