[Also in Division F2] When the nozzle 18 of a refill container of liquefied gas is inserted into a lighter filling valve (Figs. 1, 2), comprising a fixed housing 2, a resilient sealing member 15 and a member 7 movable against spring pressure, movement of the sealing member 15 away from a rib 6 on the housing 2 opens communication between an exhaust passage 17 and atmosphere through an annular space surrounding the nozzle 18, and movement of a shoulder 9 on the movable member 7 away from the sealing member 15 opens communication between inlet passages 13 and the interior of the lighter reservoir whereupon liquefied gas can flow from the refill container to the reservoir through a hollow needle 12 which penetrates a resilient lozenge 19 sealing the nozzle 18. In another embodiment (Fig. 3), the movable member of the valve consists of a rubber membrane 23 which the nozzle tip displaces from contact with the sealing member 15 to open communication between a bore 26 in the nozzle and the interior of the reservoir through ports 24 in the membrane and recesses 27 in the nozzle tip. A shoulder 28 on the nozzle displaces the sealing member 15 from the rib 6. In another similar arrangement (Fig. 7, not shown), a spring- loaded movable member replaces the membrane 23. In a further modification (Fig. 8), the tip of the nozzle 18 moves a sealing membrane 38 from the inner edge of a groove 40 in the movable member 36 to open communication between the nozzle and inlet ports 39, and a shoulder 29 on the nozzle depresses the movable member 36 so that the outer edge of the groove 40 displaces the sealing membrane 38 from the rib 6. In yet another arrangement (Figs. 5 and 6, (not shown), the sealing member consists of a rubber ring which is located in an annular groove in the fixed housing for co-operation with the movable member and the nozzle of the refill container. |
