PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image heating device capable of shortening the start-up time of a flexible member up to heating temperature of an image and reducing the rotational driving force of the flexible member. SOLUTION: The image heating device has the flexible member 13 passing through a heating nip part N. Further, the image heating device has a driving member 14 which drives and rotates the flexible member by contacting an inner peripheral surface of the flexible member downstream from the heating nip part in the conveying direction of a recording material and an external driving member 15 which drives and rotates the flexible member together with the driving member across the driving member and flexible member. The heating nip part is formed by a first heating body 10 and a second heating body 1 provided on an inner peripheral surface side and an outer peripheral surface side of the flexible member respectively. Then the flexible member is characterized in that tension T2 in an area not between the heating nip part and external driving member in a rotating direction is smaller than tension T1 in the area between the heating nip part and external driving member.
