摘要 PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To strongly maintain a locked state even if a reverse rotating torque acts on an outer rotor when a lock mechanism is in the locked state in a liquid pressure control variable valve timing mechanism having the lock mechanism bringing a vane rotor and an outer rotor into the locked state in which they can be integrally rotated or into an unlocked state in which they can be rotated relative to each other. SOLUTION: In this variable valve timing mechanism, the lock mechanism 50 comprises a lock pin 51 so disposed in the storage part 31b of the vane rotor 31 as to be projected or buried, a recess 52 formed in the outer rotor 32, and a biasing means 53 for biasing the lock pin 51 in the direction that it is fitted into the recess 52. The area of the fitting surface between the lock pin 51 in the locked state and the recess 52 for transmitting the reverse rotating torque P2 from the outer rotor 32 is formed in the shape (stepped surfaces 57, 58) that does not produce a force for moving forward the lock pin 51 to the unlocked side when the reverse rotating torque P2 acts thereon.
