The engine has an output shaft (3), which is connected with an auxiliary unit (13) and an electric machine (9) using an adjacent drive (8), where the machine is operable as a starter motor for the engine. The drive drives the auxiliary unit in a starting operation when the engine is stopped. Another adjacent drive (29) is provided for coupling the engine with the auxiliary unit, where the drive (29) drives the engine in a vehicle operation condition, independent of the drive (8). Drive wheels (11, 31), which are assigned to the drives lie on a rotary shaft (33) of the auxiliary unit.
