<p>A process for the production of organic oxides, characterized by oxidizing a substrate with a hypohalous acid, a hypohalite, chlorine, bromine, or iodine in the presence of both a catalytic amount of a compound represented by the general formula: R1 - X1 - NY - R2 (I) [wherein X1 is -CO- or -SO2-; Y is hydrogen, potassium, sodium, chlorine, bromine or iodine; R1 is an optionally substituted hydrocarbon group, -NYR3 or -OR3 (wherein R3 is an optionally substituted hydrocarbon group; and Y is as defined above); and R2 is hydrogen or -CO-R4 (wherein R4 is an optionally substituted hydrocarbon group, -NYR5 or -OR5 (wherein R5 is an optionally substituted hydrocarbon group and Y is as defined above)), or alternatively R1 and R4 may be united to form an optionally substituted nitrogenous heterocycle] and water.</p> |
