摘要 PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a backlight device for a liquid crystal display that suppresses moving stripes generated on a flash tube when lighting is started in low temperature atmosphere. SOLUTION: In the backlight device 101 for the liquid crystal display equipped with a fluorescent tube 103 constituted by arranging a first electrode and a second electrode, each comprising two lead-in wires and a filament coil provided between the lead-in wires, at both ends of a container in which mercury and noble gas are charged and which has a phosphor and a protection film formed on its inner peripheral surface, and equiped with a case 104 housing it, the mercury is condensed nearby at least one of the first electrode and second electrode during an extinction period of the flash tube 103.
