PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a wire electrode supply device capable of dispensing with a tension detector for a wire electrode, preventing the slack and breakage of a wire electrode even in the case of using a high-weight wire bobbin, and retaining fixed tension. SOLUTION: A running block 8 is disposed between the wire bobbin 2 and a brake roller 4 driven by a torque motor 3. The wire electrode 1 is supplied from the wire bobbin 2 and taken up by take-up rollers 7a, 7b through the running block 8, a brake roller 4, and a machining area up to a workpiece 15. When the feeding speed of the wire electrode is switched from high speed to low speed, the wire electrode between the wire bobbin 2 and the brake roller 4 is prevented from being slackened due to the lowering of the running block 8. When the feeding speed is switched from low speed to high speed, back tension by the torque motor 3 is decreased for a predetermined time. The tension of the wire electrode is lowered to prevent breakage. Further, the running block 8 is lowered and the wire bobbin 2 is rotated in the feeding direction to accelerate following-up the feed speed.
