PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent an adhesive roller from partially wearing even if the adhesive roller is larger than the width of a display panel substrate when foreign matter sticking on the display panel substrate is removed by the adhesive roller. SOLUTION: The foreign matter removing device includes a work table 1 whose table surface 11 has larger area than the display panel substrate (e.g. a liquid crystal panel) P and the adhesive roller 2 whose axial length is nearly equal to the width of the table surface 11 and which can move relatively to the table surface 11 orthogonally to the axis, and moves the adhesive roller 2 while pressing it against the display panel substrate P with prescribed pressure to remove foreign matter sticking on a surface of the display panel substrate P. A plurality of spacers 14 divided in the moving direction fo the adhesive roller 2 are arranged on a substrate unmounted surface of the table surface 11 where the display panel substrate P is not mounted to provide a plane almost in level with the surface of the display panel substrate P over the substrate unmounted surface by respective top surfaces of the spacers 14.
