PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce excavated soil and water, while protecting excavation wall surface, when soundness of an existing foundation pile is to be diagnosed. SOLUTION: A hole is bored from on the ground around an existing structure 1 on the ground, so as to reach the foundation pile 2 positioned under the existing structure on the ground, and a casing 13 is installed in the hole. Then, a damage detection device 30 is introduced and installed on the foundation pile 2 side face through the inside of the casing 13, and impact is applied from the foundation pile 2 side face by the damage detection device 30, and damage is detected, by measuring the impact start time and the arrival time of a reflected wave, and soundness of the pile is diagnosed.
