A method of sensing hydrogen gas (H₂) and apparatus utilise as the steps of: - exposing a hydrogen sensing element to an environment in which H₂ is to be measured - bringing the hydrogen sensing element to a first temperature T₁ - recording (directly or indirectly) an output O₁ related to a hydrogen pressure dependent property of the hydrogen sensing element, in response to H₂ - bringing the hydrogen sensing element to a second temperature T₂ - recording (directly or indirectly) an output O₂ related to a hydrogen pressure dependent property of the hydrogen sensing element, in response to H₂, and - determining the H₂ content of the environment by manipulating or comparing outputs O₁ and O₂.
