A process for the treatment e.g. dyeing of filiform articles comprises winding the articles into ring form, coaxially introducing one or more said rings into a horizontal annular chamber of approximately the same radial width as the width of the wound rings, such chamber being at least partially filled with treatment liquid and thereafter imparting rotational movement to the wound rings about the axis of the annular chamber. Suitable apparatus, Fig. 1, consists of a drum 1 having a base 2 at one end and a detachable cover 3 at the other, and rotatably mounted about its axis 4 by raceways 5, 6 bearing on rollers 7, 8. The drum can be driven by means of a motor driving worm 11 in mesh with worm gear 10. Internally of the drum 1 is a perforated tube 14 thus providing an annular compartment 15 to house the wound ring of material. In operation treatment liquid is fed into the drum through socket 16 and the drum is rotated. The drum is pivotable about hinge joint 19 so that it can be tilted out of the horizontal position into a vertical position. The tube 14 may be fitted with intermediate walls and with interconnected circumferential pockets such that rotation of the drum causes the treatment liquid to also flow axially to avoid concentration differences.
