Disclosed herein are pharmaceutical compositions that include an AA1RA, or a salt, ester, amide, metabolite, or prodrug thereof, and an anticonvulsant agent. Also disclosed are methods of treating patients suffering from congestive heart failure, methods of improving renal function, and methods o f restoring renal function comprising the step of administering a therapeutically effective amount of an AA1RA or a salt, ester, amide, metabolite, or prodrug thereof, in combination with an anticonvulsant agent.
