<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve visibility of an area having locally low visibility while maintaining visibility of the whole image. <P>SOLUTION: In a shade recognition device 20, the image photographed by an imaging device is acquired by an image acquisition part 27, and a shade recognition result obtained by recognizing shade in the photographed image by the imaging device is acquired by a shade recognition result acquisition part 26. A characteristic amount (e.g. an average value of a luminance value) of a shade area (the area of the low visibility) in the photographed image specified on the basis of the shade recognition result and the photographed image is calculated by a shade area characteristic amount calculation part 21, and similarly, a characteristic amount of a non-shade area is calculated by a non-shade area characteristic amount calculation part 22. A pixel value of each pixel belonging to the shade area is changed such that the characteristic amount of the shade area is consistent with the characteristic amount of the non-shade area, by a shade area image quality improvement part 23. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2008,JPO&INPIT |
