PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a new electrode for a capacitor which doesn't contain any porous material of a carbon system, and an electric double layer capacitor using the electrode for the capacitor. SOLUTION: In an electric double layer capacitor 1 equipped with: a dielectric 5; and a pair of electrodes 10a, 10b provided through the dielectric 5, each of these electrodes 10a, 10b is the electrode for the capacitor consisting of a semiconductor having a field effect, and the electrode 10a is connected to one electrode of a direct current power supply 50 through a conductor 20a provided at a side facing to a side touching the dielectric 5, and the electrode 10b is connected to another electrode of the direct current power supply 50 through a conductor 20b provided at the side facing to the side touching the dielectric 5.
