The device has a drive transmission (11) for driving a guiding unit, which is designed as a tube holder (13) on a circulating and closed path. A guiding gear (12) is provided for alignment of the tube holder parallel to an article such as strands (14), during separation process. The transmission and the gear are designed and arranged in such a manner that each of the transmission and the gear, or the holder describes a path, which runs approximately parallel to a transportation direction (T), during guiding and/or holding of the articles.
