A method and apparatus for searching media files fast is provided to prevent a time delay in searching media files from when a user wants to search media files fast by slowing down fast searching speed gradually according to the number of requests during a predetermined time. A method and apparatus for searching media files fast is provided to includes the steps of: setting fast searching speed as a basis when a user wants to search files fast, so fast searching media file which is about to play; stopping fast search according to input by the user; decelerating searching speed by deceleration rate set in advance, when fast search is required by a user during a limited time; setting the decelerated searching speed as fast searching speed and then starting searching media files at the point of stopping searching the media files.
