PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To confirm that a control apparatus is mounted with a sub-category type mounted on a controlled apparatus. SOLUTION: The controlled apparatus 200 is mounted with sub-categories (collective name of sub-units and detailed categories in the sub-unit) 251, 252, and further has a virtual sub-category 260 behaving as if it were mounted with all the sub-category types. When connected to a control apparatus 100, the controlled apparatus validates the operations of the virtual all sub-categories to behave as if it were mounted with all the sub-category type. In this case, the controlled apparatus gives a reply of non-mounting or rejection in response to an AV/C command received from the control apparatus, thereby allowing the control apparatus to attempt control using AV/C commands of all the sub-category types mounted on itself, and the controlled apparatus grasps a mounting status in the control apparatus on the basis of the AV/C command to be received from the control apparatus.
