PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a magnetic viscous fluid damper for actualizing independent operation and ON-OFF control by automatically changing damping force with the displacement of a piston without using a sensor for sensing the displacement of the piston or a control device for controlling the supply of power, having simple and highly reliable construction for developing good vibration insulating effects. SOLUTION: The magnetic viscous fluid damper comprises magnetic viscous fluid 8, a set of first and second ferromagnetic pistons 2a, 2b opposed to each other via a non-magnetic body 4c at an axial space, a cylinder part 3 for sealing the magnetic viscous fluid 8 and storing the pistons 2a, 2b, a piston rod 4 passing through the cylinder part 3 for supporting the pistons 2a, 2b, a magnetic field generating device 5 provided outside the cylinder part 3, and a second yoke material 11 arranged outside the cylinder part 3 around the piston rod 4.
