PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To eliminate a defect such as enlargement due to the increases in strength and capacity of a transmission mechanism (a pulley width adjusting mechanism) and the deterioration in a gear shift response. SOLUTION: A continuously variable transmission comprises an input shaft 12 freely rotatably supported by a casing, an output shaft 28 freely rotatably supported by the casing, a V pulley composed of a pulley member 14a fixed to the input shaft 12 and a movable pulley member 12b supported by the input shaft 12 so as to be axially displaceable, a toothed ring 18 which is clamped by the V pulley and which keeps the outer periphery supported by a plurality of guide rollers 22a, 22b, 22c, 22d, an output gear 26 meshed with a gear provided to the outer periphery of the toothed ring 18 and supported by the output shaft 28 so as to be axially movable, and an arm 24 which freely rotatably and axially displaceably supports a plurality of guide rollers 22a, 22b, 22c and which can turn around an axial center of the output shaft 28, torque cam mechanisms 52, 54, 56 for torque transmission between the movable pulley member 14b and input shaft 12 and for pulley clamping force generation, and an actuators 48, 50 for turning the arm 24 around the output shaft 28.
