The device has a coverage area in which a value document is located during the examination. A detection device terminating in a spatial direction for detecting the spectral components, and a collimation and focusing optics for collimating the controlled optical radiation dispersing from the coverage area on the dispersing device and for focusing some of the spectral components, that are formed by the dispersing optical device, on the detection device. An independent claim is also included for a method for optical examination of value documents.
