PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To separate a red-eye from a gold-eye, convert the separated gold-eye into a red-eye, and apply red-eye correction to the red-eye and the gold-eye converted into the red-eye by the same red-eye correction processing.

SOLUTION: The image processing apparatus includes: a red-eye candidate detection section that detects red-eye candidates included in the image; a red-eye/gold-eye separation section that judges whether the red-eye candidates detected by the red-eye candidate detection section are red-eyes or gold-eyes respectively specified by predetermined color ranges; a gold-eye conversion section that colors of the red-eye candidates judged by the red-eye/gold-eye separation section as gold-eyes into colors to be judged by the red-eye/gold-eye separation section as red-eyes; and a red-eye correction section that applies red-eye correction processing to the red-eye candidates whose colors are converted by the gold-eye conversion section.
